Stephen M. Becker, MA, MBA
Prior to joining NorthernLights Advisory Services, Stephen Becker was employed as the Chief Financial Officer of JANCO Private Equity Holding Company, a tribally-owned investment company. Before joining JANCO he was a senior member of Leidos, LLC’s Energy Asset Transactions & Advisory Group and a Managing Consultant in PA Consulting Group’s Global Energy Practice. Other experience includes holding corporate accounting and treasury positions at Bank of America and treasury positions at Key Bank.
Stephen has over twenty-four years of experience, including eighteen years as a consulting professional in the utilities and gas and oil industries. He has an extensive track record of success in company restructuring, buy-side due diligence, contract negotiations, and litigation support on behalf of his consulting clients.
Between 2001 and 2008, Stephen was involved in every major utility bankruptcy and subsequent restructuring. He and his team engaged in the due diligence of each company to support debt or equity holders in the bankruptcy process. They performed a deep dive review of the revenue and expenses of each asset. He and his team also developed projected cash flows and valuations of the assets and company as a whole and then prepared expert witnesses for testimony. They also worked closely with management to develop and execute a strategic plan for the company, including ways to improve revenues and reduce costs, sell non-core assets, and recapitalize the companies as they exit the bankruptcy process.
Stephen holds an MBA with concentrations in finance and accounting from the University of Rochester, an MA in economics with a concentration in econometrics from the University of Texas at Arlington and a BS in business administration from the University of New York at Buffalo.
